Carrying on the momentum

Updated: Dec 2, 2020

I worked hard and had a lot of fun getting part two of the Marder build finished. So I wanted to carry that momentum forward into part three, which is already into production!

I kicked things off with filling the fenders with clamps, brackets, tools and spare tracks. Most of which has been scratch built using brass as the kit parts are not true to the original vehicle.

The kit does include a nice stowage basket though, I soldered that together to make it easier to work

with and put a couple of fasteners on the front.

I made some new brackets for the jack, while the wire cutters I used the photo etch parts provided with the kit.

Most of the work has gone into the jack block. It was a very simple piece, so I added wood grain effects and replicated the steel straps with some brass ones. I dented the back of the brass to make "nail heads" then drilled down the centre strap to allow a rod to be passed through to the fender.

The rod was welded to the fender and was threaded at the other end. The jack block was then lifted over it and it was secured in place by a wing nut.

You can see the rod in a similar set up for the hetzer in this photo below.
