Things have been moving along nicely on the workbench. I have finished my 1/100 scale SU-76M, quite pleased with how it came out. Heavy weathering with a winter white wash and plenty of scratchbuilt detail. It was had to know where to stop...I surprised myself with how much extra I could have and did fit on to it!. I got the video up on YouTube last week, https://youtu.be/h5TvuOUtCLQ .
Head on over and check it out, especially those who are interested in element weathering on models.
I have now turned my attention to my current main build, the Marder III H. I have spent the better part of a week researching the little tank destroyer ahead of filming part II of the build.
The large majority of that time I was looking into the radio system and accessories that were installed. more specifically the position of where everything was located and how it was all connected. It has been quite frustrating, you see the model I am making is the Ausf H, "Ausf. E" or "H Ausf. E" which must have been a later version?.
Most photos and models of the Ausf. H have the radio located on the transmission beam next the the bow gunner. The Ausf H "Ausf. E" apparently moved the radio to the inner right side of the fighting compartment, to create a loader/radio man position to evenly share the workload between the 4 man crew. So back to the frustrating part, photos and information of the "Ausf. E" are hard to find. Reference photos are usually of a bad angle or the fighting compartment is in shadow. Models of it usually have left detail parts out or just missing entirely.
However late last night I stumbled across a facebook page that specialises in restoring German WWII vehicles, to my amazement they had hundreds of photos of a Marder III wreck they had pulled apart, cleaned, repaired and put back together again.....I have now have a visual catalog of nearly every individual part of a Marder III and where it goes!.
I have now completed the virtual puzzle that was swirling around in my head, I am raring to go and you can expect a VERY detailed part II coming in the near future.
